Meant to contain the people who are more ideologically cconvinced. Got people to paint bricks with the name of their warrior king, to send over tho the appropriate part of the temple. Led to the mosque being destroyed in 1972. At times the party has done this by presenting a more moderate fface. Party especially did this in the early 1980s when they claimed a commitment to gandhian socialism. While its focus remains hindu nationalism, not everyone who supports the party supports it for that reason. Other common reason: discontent with other parties. Party has an image of being less corrupt than others. Hindu identity: ancestry/based on cultural and territorial belonging. One is a hindu who accepts greater india (includes various regions to which hindu myhts refer) to be his father land and a sacred land. Sacred land = land who"s significance is religious. Sense of political community is bonded by that.
