COMM 250 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Simultaneous Communication, Nonverbal Communication
Document Summary
Sometimes people develop theories off of their own perspectives, and communication would be define differently by some scholars. Communication - a process in which individuals use symbols to establish and interpret meaning in their environment. To different people from different environments or with different relationships, communication may be interpret differently. Models of communication: linear (1949), interactional (1954), transactional (1970) history of communication (small versions of reality of communication). If you don"t know what a word means from a message, that"s internal noise, because you would not know what the full meaning of a message is. May also mean that two people who speak different languages would have semantic noise, since both of these two people would not understand each other. Another example of semantic is slang, especially since teens developed this because they don"t want adults to understand them: psychological (internal noise) biases that may interfere with people"s thoughts of what the message means.
