Youth crime ii slide 4: boots camps as a criminal justice policy. Based on the idea that kids need discipline because they are considered disrespectful. This approach where people need to be strict with young people and address the growing problem of youth crime. It has a certain kind of appeal because it associates with discipline is part of the problem, so it is also part of the solution: opened in july 1997. This was based on a strict discipline model. It included: drills, physical labour, academics, recreational programs, specialized treatment programs for issues such as substance abuse, anger management, etc. So it wasn"t just about strict discipline, it was also about counselling, treatment, etc. You"d have to be only male, no previous convictions or homicide, or arson, or sex offenses, at least 16, 4-18 remaining in a secure custody disposition. Boot camps that are successful have this component of counseling and treatment.
