PSY 302 Lecture Notes - Parenting Styles
Document Summary
Participations of parents within pretend play is important for the children; making the child happy or sad with response. To which degree a child is popular within peer group. Neglected fewer nominations, seems to not exist within their peer group: do not actively interact with others as they are gone unnoticed by others, shy and slow to warm up to others. Controversial - a lot of nominations; half and half like and dislike the children: characteristics of both popular and rejected kids, good academic performances, but arrogant and snobbish, some may and some may not prefer these students. Average-status children enemies dislike them, best friends like them, in between, no more, no less: rejected status. Other people are bad = hostile behaviour: to react to other people"s bad treatment; they become aggressive, high dropout rate compared to other peer acceptance groups. Contributing factors for peer acceptance: parenting style. Authoritative style => popular children sensitive to children"s demands, democracy views.
