The unifying principles that guide our understanding of life. Principal 1: cells are the simplest units of life. Organisms maintain an internal order that is separated from the environment. The simplest unit of an organism is the cell. The cell theory: 1) all organisms are composed of cells. 2) cells are the smallest units of life. 3) new cells come from pre existing cells via cell division. Multicellular organisms- (plants, animals) composed of many cells. All living organisms acquire energy from the environment and use that energy to to maintain their internal order. Cells carry out many internal chemical reactions that are responsible for breaking down nutrients.
