Document Summary

Self-management- behaviour modification procedures used by a person to change his or her own behaviour. The goal of self management is to decrease or eliminate the behavioural excess so that the negative outcome does not occur in the future. According to skinner, self management involves a controlling behaviour and a controlled behaviour. Controlling behaviour- the antecedents and consequences of a target behaviour and/or alternative behaviours are modified. Controlled behaviour- the target behaviour that is influenced in a self management project. You can influence the likelihood that you will engage in a target behaviour in the future by establishing a goal for yourself. Goal-setting- the person decides on and writes down the desired level of the target behaviour (and time frame) he/she hopes to achieve as a result of self management procedures. Behavioural contract- written document in which you identify the target behaviour and arrange consequences contingent on a specified level of the target behaviour in a specific time period.
