Question 1 add genotypes to the pedigrees from the open genetics text that i used in my lecture: figure 5. 6 (ar), figure 5. 3 (ad), figure 5. 9 (xr), and figure 5. 4b (xd). Use a for the recessive allele and a for the dominant allele (like i was doing in class). Question 2 vegetables such as broccoli contain phenylthiocarbamide. Some people find ptc to be unpleasantly bitter while other people can"t taste it at all. The ability to taste is due to a person"s genotype at the tas2r38 gene at 7q35: tasting is dominant to non-tasting. Why? (this question is based upon a question in griffiths et al. ) Question 3 this pedigree shows the inheritance of a rare disease in a chinese family (dai et al. , 2011, bmc med genet 12:72 pubmed id: 21599986).
