Document Summary
Assumes that some (all?) disorders are ultimately caused by abnormal neural or other physiological functions. This is not really the beginning or the end. Any one of these neurotransmitters has effects on multiple parts of the brain. One big thing to avoid is side effects. Norepinephrine is related to the cortical regions as well as the cerebellum; relates to alertness and energy; adjusting one areas = adjusting all areas related to the neurotransmitter"s region (the planet x rule) Dopamine also has the same idea and so does serotonin. Take home message: the drug will give the desired effects as well as its side effects; they often get in the way of therapeutic techniques. In the case of schizophrenia, drug therapies are the way to go. Chlorpromazine (largactil/thorazine) dramatically reduces the positive symptoms of. Long term use leads to tardive dyskinesia (lip smacking, drooling)
