Document Summary

Mind-body = separation of the mind and the body, studying the body as a object that is separate from the context of people"s lives. Reductionism = breaking stuff down to look for one cause, looking at all the parts in isolation of each other. Etiology = there is one specific cause of a disease, looking for symptoms rather than looking at multiple causal factors. Machine = dominant metaphor, malfunctioning of the body and using more and more machines to diagnose, detect, x-ray malfunctions of body. Regimen control = we are all responsible for our bodies and need to take care of them. Fallacy = most diseases have multiple causes, you can"t just find one main cause. Objectification = disease is only seen in physical terms, it becomes the only way that is deemed appropriate to look at illness. But we know that ill health can be unobserved. Example: mental health issues are not always observed.
