Monday, march 24: automatic stereotyping and discrimination, children, pick up what they learn, and repeat the stereotypes they have learned, will behave in ways that suggest that they have internalized the information they have picked up, everyone"s spreading activation networks are filled with ideas of stereotypes, children"s doll preferences, children"s race biases. Some people truly believe it is wrong to be prejudiced and internalized that they do not want to be prejudiced: two main forms of modern expression of prejudice, both conservatives and liberals are prejudiced, but they show it in various ways, conservative prejudice (cid:224) antipathy present. Symbolic/modern/subtle preference: overt prejudice no longer acceptable, but covert prejudice remains, we still hate certain outgroups, but we know we cannot say we hate them, you need to have an alternate explanation for your hatred that does not have to do with the social group, how to justify dislike of outgroup without seeming (or feeling) prejudiced, value conflict (cid:224) protestant work ethic.
