Teleological is goal-oriented young children can communicate without using words ex. Child is hungry and hits refrigerator; the child has communicative goal in mind when goes to refrigerator i. e. feed me! Father is engaging the infant"s attention a major way: infant-directed speech . Not much variation in what they were vocalized imitation, indicating paying attention to the other baby. Changes in pitch, intonation i. e. questioning tone, prosody manipulating stream of sound more like speech. When a child uses a word, they may not have enough psychological or linguistic understanding to use it in an adult way.
