Demand for food: population and population growth. Prediction = 3. 5 billion more people in world by 2032. Poverty, food, disease, non-renewable, resources, environmental concerns: ethnic diversity, regional differences, household size, age, marital status, education, urbanization, cities = food access and distribution problems, choice of foods (processed vs fresh; animal foods expensive, poor food storage facilities. Some people don"t have refrigerators to store fresher foods; demand processed foods: income, water and disease (esp. in developing countries and intercity areas, food losses/wastage/spoilage. Price of food (laws of supply and demand) e. g. oranges and lemon; recently limes in mexico: biotechnology (controlled ripening and storage of fruits and vegetables, largest percentage of waste with meat and dairy products. Ignorance a major factor: high animal protein diets, need grains for feed.
