Ovum carries x chromosome, sperm carries x or y chromosome. 5 or 6 weeks, embryo has a pair of gonads, external genitals (cant tell sex) 7 weeks, genetic code (xx or xy) starts, cause changes in genitals/gonads. 11 or 12 weeks, ovaries begin to form. Basic blueprint of human embryo is female because of chromosomes textbook: Hermaphrodites: person who possess both ovarian and testicular tissue, rare. Intersexual: person who possess gonads (ovaries/testes) of one gender but external genitilia that is ambiguous of the other gender. Transgenderism/ transexualism: have hormone therapy and then they will have the surgery, dome more male to female transsexuals (breasts enlarged b/c they have been exposed to estrogen) Involves a lifetime of hormone treatments: surgery is largely cosmetic, cannot construct internal genitals or gonads.
