4 objectives to investigator process: establish crime was actually committed, if so what crime, to apprehend suspect and identify, to recover stolen property, to assist in the prosecution of the person. Inductive reasoning: moves specific details to a general view of the crime: ex. Deductive reasoning: creates a hypothesis about the crime. When responding to crime scene you document everything that is coming out. After you do crime scene search you put crime scene evidence # cones. Macroscopic scene: large view of the scene. Microscopic scene: small view of the scene. Corpus delicti evidence: each offense has a distinct set of evidence that must be demonstrated to prove a case. Associative evidence: either connects perp to scene or victim or connects scene or victim to perp. Tracking evidence: identification and location of the suspect. Pattern: glass fracture, skid marks, shoe print, seatbelt. Trace evidence: using alternate light source to find evidence: ex.
