Document Summary

Fracking regulations can be summed up in one word: lacking. The few protocols put in place are just the beginning of what needs to be. The epa is letting wastewater go by unnoticed. President obama announced his complete support for fracking. Obama is not going the extra step to make sure fracking is actually safe. Time and time again, the epa allows water pollution to go unnoticed. A natural gas well drilled by chesapeake energy corporation had a wellhead connection fail and gas and thousands of gallons of chemicals and toxic liquid flowed into nearby waterways. Wastewater was left to pollute the water that citizens had no choice but to. All existing wells are exempted from new regulations: due to the fact that they produce more volatile organic compounds (vocs) emissions and can offset costs, the wells go unnoticed by the epa. But, vocs are only cut a mere 15% and only methane production by 13%.
