Book 7: augustine first reads neoplatonic philosophy, neoplatonists back up back up idea of god as cause of existence of all things, but mention nothing about the idea that there is a corporeal form (christ) dwelling among us, supports that nothing can be truly evil to god, but human free will allows a turn away from him o, augustine has 2 criticisms. Book 8: compares his state to a drowsy sleeper trying to get up, what frustrated augustine was that he didn"t need the will to do something as much as the will to will something, hears a divine command to open his bible ( pick up and read ) and reads an injunction against indecencies, a command to make no provision for the flesh in the lusts , what finally convinces augustine to convert.
