Abdominal cavity and wall: abdominal cavity, is superiorly bounded by diaphragm & lower costal cartilages & ribs, it inferiorly extends to the top of the pelvis, laterally, anteriorly, and posteriorly surrounded by muscle, abdominal muscles, anterolateral muscular group: Anterolateral: external oblique, actions: unilateral action contralateral rotation & ipsilateral side flexion, origin: ribs 5 12, insertion: iliac crest. Spermatic cord or round ligament passes through the canal: peritoneum, visceral layer: covering organs, parietal layer: lining inside abdominal walls, the space between these 2 layers is peritoneal cavity, specific areas where visceral layer doubles up: Omentum: visceral layer comes off organ on one side, met layer coming off other side and runs to another organ, omentums are double layers of peritoneum joining two adjacent organs, the greater omentum joins inferior stomach to superior transverse colon, the lesser omentum joins superior stomach to inferior liver.
