Document Summary
The age of exploration what historians call the 15th through 17th centuries. They looked for new methods of transportation they took to the water. Contact with foreign lands were a boon to europeans brought new foods, goods & revenue. For the peoples discovered it was another story brought about beginning of slavery. Europeans did not think they were doing anything wrong. In their view, africa and america had no culture as they were not centered on what europeans considered to be the most important elements of civilization: christianity. Jesuits were founded by ignatius of loyola (1491-1556), a man born of high stature. In 1517, he entered the military and suffered a terrible leg wound. During recovery, he began reading stories about christ and saints, that changed his life. He left his past life and became devoted to serving christ. He was unsure of what his path should be he went to israel and studied priesthood.
