Primary sex characteristics: the genitalia used in the reproductive process: at birth, these primary sex characteristics distinguish btw male & female. Hermaphrodite: a person in whom sexual differentiation is ambiguous or incomplete: produced through a hormone imbalance before birth, tend to have a combo of female & male genitalia. Chromosomally normal (xy) male born with a penis of 1cm with a urinary opening like that of a female. Western societies only acknowledge 2 sexes while other societies recognize 3: men, woman & berdaches/xaniths biological amles who behave, dress, work & are treated as women.
