Document Summary

Orienting employees: a well-planned orientation program (aka on-boarding) can lead to reductions in turnover, increased morale, fewer instances of corrective discipline and fewer employee grievances. Sometimes we have some special situations when we need to orient: Mergers and acquisitions: employees that are coming into a company that just merged should be given details of the merger. They need to be made aware of any ongoing difficulties that may result because of the merger. Union vs. non-union employees: new employees in unionized positions need to be given a copy of the agreement and they should be told which info relates to their job specificifically. Multi-location organizations: new employees in a company with different locations should be informed of the other locations and what business functions the other location performs. Some potential problems with orientation programs: sometimes it can be too much information in to short a period of time.
