Document Summary

Direct and indirect assessment: two types of behavioral assessment, indirect assessment: involves using interviews, questionnaires and rating scales to obtain info on target behavior from person exhibiting behavior or from others. In indirect assessment, info on target behavior depends on people"s memories. People providing info may not have been trained to observe target behavior and may not have noticed all occurrences of behaviour. Internal states can"t be observed and recorded by another person: behavioral definition does not make inferences about person"s intentions. Interobserver reliability (ioa): when two people can observe same behavior and both record that behavior occurred. Exception (cid:0) when target behaviour is observed through video: must be trained to identify occurrence of target behavior and to record immediately. In some cases, the observer is the person exhibiting the target behaviour: self monitoring: client observes and records own target behavior. Self monitoring is valuable when it is not possible for another observer to record target behavior.
