It is a systematic review and evaluation of an employee"s job performance and the delivery of performance feedback. The important thing about this is that you can use it to improve someone"s performance. Giving them feedback on where they need to improve. Without this we wouldn"t know how to adjust our behavior. We use this for: personnel decisions promoting, firing, etc, developmental purposes identify strengths and weakness coaching, documentation provide a line of legal defense against lawsuits. If we design this, we want to make sure it"s the best job related standard as possible. We don"t want this to be poorly designed. Poorly designed systems result in very negative consequences such as: wrong people get promoted or fired, employees feel treated unfairly and behave accordingly, outcomes include: low motivation, low commitment to organization, counterproductive behaviors, job dissatisfaction, etc. I/o psychologists especially well-suited to be involved in pa because of training: measurement expertise, hr knowledge, organizational psychology.
