Document Summary

Intergroup negotiations have 2 teams negotiating against each other. To have those multiple roles is an important aspect of team management. Interpersonal skills: you need someone with good interpersonal skills who can communicate effectively and help develop trust. 2 or 3 heads are better than 1, but there"s a limit to how large the team should be; research finds that conformity pressures kick in when the group reaches about 5 people. Multiparty negotiations group of 3 or more negotiators each representing their own interests who attempt to resolve perceived differences of interest: very common, have characteristics that make them more difficult. Increasing the number of people is what increases the complexity: more susceptible to breakdowns; harder to reach an agreement with multiparty negotiations. If you have a multiparty negotiation with some very powerful people, the less powerful people will often defer to them.
