Interest groups: tends to evolve out of a more organized association, like the canadian medical. Committed to advancing goals related to this issue. Promote democracy and encourage a sense of unity. Reflected the society that they originated in. Political parties often began along religious lines or regional lines. Served as a way of bringing regional/religious interests into politics and advancing goals of members in that religion of region. As time progressed, political parties moved away from religion and region and became more interested in questions, ideas, and attracting larger groups of people. As the right to vote expanded, political parties became less interested in advancing the groups of one religion/region and just tried to get more votes to compete for power.
