Document Summary

The nervous system inhibits certain muscles from working. Also each set of muscles has its own set of ganglion that controls it. The protocerebral ganglion are used to inhibit certain movements until a certain time. If the head is removed completely, mantises become immobile. For example, female crickets come out only at night because of the lack of predators. Therefore male crickets only call starting at sundown. A clock mechanism could be useful for the control of a singing behaviour or any behaviour that occurs at a specific time. 2 theories in how animals can change their priorities over time: one is they change them in response to a biological clock. This would allow organisms to alter their behaviour in response to changes in the world around them such as decreased light. In crickets one would assume if there was never any darkness, they wouldn"t start calling according to the second hypothesis.
