Filmmaking relies on two fundamental technical aspects (which ideas existed prior to the existence of cinema): shooting, film screening. Because of the lack of recording devices before 1985, it was impossible to use these ideas. The principles were known as early as 400bce. This is an optical device that projects an image on a screen/surface. Without this, traditional photography wouldn"t have been invented. Was used in the 17th + 16th century by painters, would project and paint over it. This is symptomatic of people"s willingness to produce movement on to a screen.
