Who gives the labels: content: multiple meanings, contested, varying. Civic vs ethnic: civic one tied to a state, a flag, a constitution, i. e. us george washington, apple pie, football, canada multicultural mosaic, maple syrup, moose, ethnic tied to ethnicity. Nationalism: the desire to have its own country: doesn"t count for canada but quebec is an aspiration, nationalists are aggressive, want territory, are crazy.
