Document Summary

We are growing very fast, rates are growing and with that, doubling time has been getting shorter. Human pop growth rates are higher than they should be considering out body size: we altered our agricultural practises. Productive land is going down because of agricultural degradation and human population is going up. A: mortality rates have gone down because of vaccination, going to the doctor, and discoveries like potable water, public health, clean water availability. Birth rate vary as a function of wealth, education, equality of the distribution of that wealth: Lorenz curve: pop and wealth broken into groups of 5, the bigger the gap (between curve and straight line), the more unequal society is. Birth rates go up: poorest is lower left hand corner. Reducing population growth: governmentally sponsored, can become unaffordable. Loss of natural habitats, pollutants: the ability to absorb relates to industrial activities, ecological footprint.
