Respiratory system: functions in close association with the cardiovascular system, when respiratory and cv system are examined together = cardiorespiratory system , the oxygen transport system. Cardiorespiratory system: responsible to, delivery of oxygen and nutrients to working muscles, removal of carbon dioxide and waste products from the working muscles. Pulmonary ventilation: movement of air into and out of the lungs, breathing, reliant on differences in air pressure, high pressure low pressure, mechanical way of getting air into the body. External respiration: exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, between the lung and the blood, this exchange occurs as a result of, pulmonary ventilation, diffusion. Tissue respiration: exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the tissue and the blood, this exchange occurs as a result of, blood flow, diffusion. The nose: functions, warms, cleans and humidifies air, detects odors, amplifies voice, external structures, surface anatomy. Voice box : keeps food and drinks out of the airway, produces sound.
