What is ses: it is a person"s level of education and occupation. Someone with a higher education has a higher ses. Not based on economic status (some prestige jobs have a low ses, example: teacher) Like race, it is strongly associated with health in adulthood (i. e african american and low ses) Possibility of economic growth small in later life. Health care housing and transportation costs increase in later life. It was thought that expenses go down after you retired, but they actually increase. Poverty line: adjusted according to a myth. What are tweeners?- oa adults that fall slightly above the poverty line and aren"t elegible for the help they require. If oa reach poverty line, have more expenses, more needs than younger adults. Ses affects longevity because of its links with: 1- education with higher education people have less illnesses because you are more informed.
