Document Summary

Ecology is the field of biology that focuses on the interactions among organisms as well as between them and their environment. Population is defined as all of the individuals of a species within a given area. Population exhibits a structure which includes the spacing of individuals and their density, which enable ecologists to assess factors that lead to population"s success or failure. The size of a population is determined by mark-rapture method. Human population is reaching carrying capacity from 2. 1% in 1960s to 1. 2% current rate. Unique characteristics of humanity make it difficult to determine exactly which population size represent the carrying capacity. Signs that population is not near carrying capacity: In human population even though growth rates are decreasing, death rates are decreasing, which means we are not running out of food. The decreasing growth rate is caused by families choosing to have fewer children, this decrease in growth rates.
