Children are not simply miniature versions of adults. They have an innate motivation to learn about the world. Assimilation: use existing schema to interpret new situation (will fit right into existing schema) Accommodation: encounter new situation, change existing schema in order to incorporate new information. According to piaget, we have 4 stages of cognitive development. Use senses and motor skills to learn about and discover the world. According to piaget, children are not capable of abstract thinking.
