PSYC 305 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Heritability, Intime, Human Genome Project
Document Summary
Human genome project dedicated to sequencing the entire human genome, identify the particular sequence of dna molecules in the human species. 1. that it can be applied to a single individual. For an individual, genes & environment cannot be separated. Heritability refers only to differences in a sample or population, not an individual that it is constant. It"s a statistic that applies onto to a population at one point in time & in a particular array of environments. If the environments change, then heritability can change. Can be high at one time, low at another time. Always depends on both the range of genetic differences in the population & on the range of environmental differences in that population. Does not generalize across persons or places that it is an absolutely precise statistic. Best regarded as an estimate of the % of phenotypic differences due to genetic differences. Artificial selection- breeding animals for certain qualities.
