Kennedy progress inspired ppl elected to congress to change procedures. Congress had been dominated a long time by a republicans and southern. Democrats they de facto became the dominant force in congress prevented the passage of more liberal bills in congress tension between kennedy and congress missile crisis. Fp issues deteriorating situation in vietnam started the peace corps eco. inequality civil rights issue. Kennedy talked with experts and wanted to launch a plan for this. Congress and pres. were way behind direct action by civil rights groups like sit-ins, etc. Kennedy belatedly took up the cause, especially after mlk jr. march on washington developing plans for legislation. Kenendy assassinated by lee harvey oswald succeeded by johnson 1963-1969. Johnson confronted by gulf of tonkin crisis off of vietnam questions as to what happened there.
