Frame of reference - personal experiences, attitudes, and beliefs that affect everything they say and interpret in the event. Perceptual filters - created by our frame of reference. The process by which we select, organize and interpretthe world around us. Select - picking what is most important around you. May or may not be a conscious act. Selective perception - seeing, hearing, believing only what you want to. Confirmation bias - only selecting to speak about matters that assist your side of a persuasion. Selective retention - the tendency to remember things that only conform to our beliefs. Grouping - making groups out of things in close proximity. Similarity - grouping things because they are similar. Organize - making sense of what is happening around you. Interpret - assigning meaning to the events around you. Closure - the tendency to fill in missing information in order to make sense of and draw conclusions from the available data.
