Regulates eating, drinking, sex (regulates internal environment; homeostasis) pituitary gland. Hypothalamus stimulates pituitary gland in endocrine system. Control all bodily organs involuntary (heart, livers, kidneys etc) Other research shows important for emotional stimuli. Associated with lateral hypothalamus- stimulates it when detects danger increases ans. Also involved in learning new association with emotion. Para ventricular nucleus stimulates cortisol response & perspiration. Central gray matter- pain suppression & defensiveness. Trigeminal facial nerve- produces facial expressions of fear. Left side generates positive emotions & approach behavior. Right side generates negative affects and avoidance tendencies: asymmetry. Neurotransmitter pathways in the brain: neurotransmitter pathway: a cluster if neurons that communicate with other neurons by using one particular neurotransmitter, four motivationally relevant neurotransmitter pathways. Serotonin : involved in mood and regulates sleep. Endorphin: inhibits pain, anxiety and fear, makes you feel good. Dopamine release emotional positivity enhanced functioning: creativity and insightful problem solving. Incentives (stimuli that foreshadows the imminent delivery of rewards) triggers dopamine release.
