Geol 210 sept 11th lec 4. Mercury can be found in rocks, but once out of rock it is not solid. Only few hundreds important in geology even though 4000 identified. Minerals = elements some are found in nature in their pure form (eg gold/silver) To find out what element it is atomic number. *the structure of minerals table. Garnet only shows up in a metamorphic rock. Very often, external reflection of what the internal structure is if look at little cubes. Can tell by look at crystals structure. All about symmetry and geometry. No matter what, able to see the angle (eg quartz = gonna be 120 degrees using a goniometer)
