Document Summary
Chapter 6: learning: phobias, irrational fears of specific objects or situations, classical conditioning, type of learning in which stimulus acquires the capacity to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus. First described by ivan pavlov russian psychologist. Classical conditioning in everyday life: classical conditioning often plays a key role in shaping emotional responses such as fear, irrational fears can be traced back to experiences that involve classical conditioning, not limited to producing only unpleasant emotions such as fear. Advertisers use classical conditioning to get consumers to buy their products: ex. beer companies using models with their beer products. In operant conditioning, a favourable outcome is more likely to strengthen response when: outcomes follows immediately, if delay occurs between response and positive outcome. Intermittent (partial) reinforcement: occurs when a designated response is reinforced only some of the time, fixed ratio (fr) schedule, reinforcer is given after a fixed number of non reinforced responses.
