Problems making language sense out of sounds they hear the sounds but. Involve stroke in dorsal temporal area near primary receptive area (auditory) Cannot repeat or commands unless written: integrated aphasia (problems with putting together info: nuts and bolts not there) Involves selecting and arranging meaningful units and there eventual conversion into comprehension coherent speech. Make unintelligible statements, chattering for long periods of time without making sense. Words are not random though (not word salad) sounds like it makes sense. All musical qualities of language in tact (rh) Cannot name an object but can say something that is in a similar category (table-chair) Responds to commands poorly and repitition b/c cannot understand. Must deal with families because patient is unaware of problem. Will use words that sound like it or circomclusion: describing it.
