Statuses, identities and roles are social attachments we acquire over the course of our lives as we interact with others (p. 130) A condition of sickness in the social body. Durkheim thought revolution destabilized the norms, and after a revolution nobody knows what to do. The state of anomie forms when there is great societal change. Master status: "the status that tells most about her or him as a whole is occupation, which, in turn, probably provides a very god idea of level of education, income, and lifestyle. (p. 133) Role strain: "difficulty in meeting given role demands" Two key reasons for role strain- two key sources of stress 1st- is that one has been inadequately socialized for the role. 2nd key cause- bad fit between personality and role. You"re trying to fit the demands of a role you may not suit. Someone who is shy trying to fit the demands of being a ceo.
