Document Summary

Distinct feature between compound eye and vertebrae is multiple lens that orient everywhere compared to single lens that orients with head, respectively. Photoreceptor cells send info to back of the eye to optic nerve which goes to brain. More light needed to activate cone cell than rod cell. Visual pigments are located in the outer segment . Inner segment contains the rest of the organelles for the cells. Synaptic terminal makes contact with the next cell and relays info. Permeability of sodium is almost equal to potassium in darkness. In light permeability of sodium decreases and this produces the hyperpolarization seen in the previous slide. Dark current refers to the red arrows which is a steady current of sodium that keeps the vm at -20. Due to the positive influence of sodium, there is a steady release of neurotransmitters meanign there is a constant state of depolarization.
