Sexuality is not just about having sex. Sex industry (porn, prostitution etc. ) is a multi-billion dollar industry. Sex: refers to the biological distinction between females & males. Sex is way human reproduce (female ovum, male sperm= each contain 23 pairs of chromosomes) Sperm + ovum combine to form a fertilized embryo. Mother contributes x and father contributes x or y. Xx = female xy= male father determines sex of child. About 105 boys are born for every 100 girls, but a higher death rate among males gives females a slight majority by time people reach mid 30s. Differences in the body set males & females apart right from birth. 2 sexes have diff primary sex characteristics: the genitals, organs used for reproduction. At puberty as people reach sexual maturity, additional sex differentiation takes place. Secondary sex characteristics: bodily development apart from the genitals.
