Tend to deal in consensus and move on from there and build our understanding. When there is debate, it means science is working the way it should. Where we come from influences our understanding of the environment: e. g. developing countries have a different view of the environment than we do. Tend to set up technosphere and ecosphere as inherently conflicting. Technosphere: manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, production of energy. People assume that you cannot have both: no in between. Issues and topics in the course: basic science of the environment. what is a forest and what are its components; what does it need. how can we measure the health of a forest: basic science of human impacts on the environment. what happens if we cut down all the trees in a forest. and what happens to the soil then: will touch on environmental management. don t need to manage the environment, it can manage itself.
