Fairytales usually focus on the innocent & powerless that"s why they"ve become assimilated into children"s literature because children are innocent & powerless. Fairytales: usually good & evil: the good triumphs. It"s usually a 3rd person narrator and often remains outside the story. The characters are quite flat; they don"t really develop overtime. Fairytales are pretty much black & white. They are referred to as naked narratives meaning that they consist mostly of protagonist, landscapes, etc. Perrault is credited as the father of written fairytales in europe. Fairytales can occur anytime or any place (once upon a time) Fairytales are considered to be a sub-group of folktales . They originated in oral cultures as part of rituals which contained cultural lessons. The oldest version of cinderella was recorded in 850-60 ad (it doesn"t exactly have a fairy godmother but it has the same motifs and they are recognizable.
