History of thought in geography: the importance of geography for imperialism: geographical societies [ex. Chicago school and organisms: ecological principles, technological limitations. Implications of scholarly role: data availability/methods, research impact/audience, research ethics, conflict with research subjects. Is objectivity possible: transparency, systematic research design, consideration of generalization and sampling issues. Interviews/questionnaires: letters, corporate documents, photographs, structured observation.
