Document Summary
Abundance- # of individuals of a particular species in an area. Genetic variation- differences at he dna level among individuals within a population. Primary source of genetic variation is mutation, can also result from recombination. Natural selection- non-random differences in survival and/ or reproduction among individuals entities on the basis of differences in heritable characteristics. Population bottle neck-sudden, severe reduction in population size, loss of individuals not related to particular traits (happens at random), founder effects- start a new population; random changes in allele frequencies in. Gene flow- movement of genes among populations, causes the frequency to become more alike 50/50; same allele frequency; sharing of alleles amoung populations.
