Document Summary

We all share the five senses, so you write a poetry that has the five senses. So whatever is talked about can be identified with in some way. The everyman then comes from the style and the language. You also talk about things that people can experience the things you re talking about via smell. Nothing excluded from what is potentially identifiable because of imagination, so everything is connected to everything else. Whitman uses all kinds of sentences (e. x. imperative, indicative, exclamatory) which engages all of the consciousness. Whitman addresses the reader as a person and engages with them not just as the reader overhearing (which is the traditional reader). He s working with the fiction of breaking through doors and finding what s on the other side of that threshold. Fourth wall of the poem, have you practised so long to learn to read? .
