It may be that individual prefaces get in the way->personalization-the goal like in anything else is to please most of the ppl most of the time. Focus must be on the user view of a system. >ex. the metaphor of having a filing cabinet on ur desktop =real filing cabinet with folders in it when u open it. May have to test an interface-b/c it is just a special piece of software-not just to work, but to work for the ppl its designed for. Interfacing: need to indicate how to ex. open the 1-dimensional door. The user knows what they re supposed to do, but accidentally performs the action incorrectly. Need to have in mind who is going to be using my site. The user s expectations are diff from the system s expectations. Ex. ask the users to come up with a diff metaphor than the desktop->design interface for it. Need to understand how humans interact with the interface.
