BCH311H1 Lecture : Lecture notes
Document Summary
Last lecture - primary sructure of dna = bases, sugars connected by phosphate backbone - single strand of dna looks like - secondary structure - two strands come together, wound up helix, characteristic of b form. Dna, not biologically relevant type of nucleic acid. How accessible or not will influence interaction. Take a helical section and unpaired section to stabilize folds and loops of trna. Can cut off unwanted interaction by turning off hydrogen bonding donor or acceptor by turning it into a methyl group. If not pseudouridine, uridine would be rotated so no interaction. D loop"s g reaching out to contact pseudouridine to bring loops together. Backbone of dna certaind istance apart; in rna, backbones close, in order for that to not be prohibitive electronegatically. Mg bind to phosphate in backbone, screen the charges. Also free mg ion in water, has sheel of water molecules around it.
