aristocracy in the american context was not referred to heridary land and nobility, but large rich property owners. became the theme of his first great book democracy in america hoping to provide guidelines for france. desired so strongly for france was what he saw in the us order in government, based on separation of powers, more freedom. feared governmental procedures in france, didn t exist or less so in america. thought it was more of a classless society changed his tune later. america never had an old regime like france no established church, state bureaucracy, large metropolitan areas. homogeneous agrarian middle class even though there were extremes in wealth adn poverty but they were rare. democratic movement/revolution was gaining momentum in europe but said they need knowledgable guidance, pg. 89 with democracy, ignorance is less common, more guidance, decreased hostility between classes.
